Ugh! Help!  I cannot figure out what to do with my front yard.  It came with quite a large garden box built into the ground, a plum tree growing in said garden box, a baby apple tree (in the middle of the yard), lemon tree, baby avocado tree, and some sort of super sour kumquat tree among many, many, many other random plants all...over...the...yard.

Did I mention the yard is only about 19' x 28'?  Yeah its pretty overwhelming.

What I think I want is something much more simple, streamlined, and modern.  Maybe some pebbles and Mexican feather grass?  So far I have planted dwarf olives by the front fence for a little privacy.  Along the waist high wall we share with the neighbor I've planted some pride of madeira (large purple cone flowers above) in the hopes that they will grow super high super fast, and lavender along the front porch to match what is already there.  I think I've bought pretty much every Australian/non native plant from my local nursery and they are living in pots around the backyard or dead (I know shame on me)  and I just can't seem to get it right.

Is it terrible if I get rid of some of the random plants for a more cohesive landscape design?  Maybe I can find homes for them? I dunno, feeling defeated.

  1. Hey girlfriend, I'm sure you can find someone to take the young fruit trees! I don't blame you for wanting to open up the space. Consider keeping one, it's nice to have seasonal fruit around! http://www.wikihow.com/Transplant-a-Young-Tree

  2. Craigslist! We have been dealing with the same issue, but on a much larger scale. Some of the randomness we've torn out, others we've transplanted elsewhere in the lawn (including some smaller trees) and other stuff friends and neighbors have taken. But seriously, if you list on craigslist what you have, people will totally come and dig it out themselves and take it away for you. Then you don't have to feel guilty and all those lovely (if yet random) plants can live happily ever after in someone else's yard.
